| Following
her accident, Becky spent three months between Northwestern
Memorial Hospital and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
During this time, she received continuous medical care as well
as vigorous physical and occupational therapy; all to help her
prepare for the new way of life that awaits her. Currently,
Becky receives 24-hour care at home. As
with many high level spinal cord injury patients, Becky’s
immune system has been forever compromised and she will always
be at risk for infections, blood clots, skin breakdowns, lung
and breathing problems, fractures, muscle spasms and stroke.
She will continue to face innumerable health and other challenges
that will need to be closely monitored throughout her life.
Becky
has always enjoyed life and has never taken anything for granted.
As a life-long Oak Lawn resident, Becky attended Kolmar, Richards
and Moraine Valley and worked as the Sales and Catering Manager
at the Hilton Oak Lawn for 16 years. She found the perfect
career which showcased her outgoing and infectious personality.
Becky is that one-in-a-million girl with a smile that lights
up a room. Because of all these things and so many more, it
is difficult to accept the turn her life has taken.
Each day
since the accident, Becky has demonstrated the spirit and
will to create a new life, one engaged and focused on the
future. Becky has given so much to her family, friends and
community and now it is our turn to give back to Becky.
We are
currently seeking donations to help provide her with the most
advanced medical care and equipment available to enable her
to live an independent and fulfilling life.
